  • Friday is Tacky Tinsel day. Wear your tackiest holiday outfits! Prizes will be given out to the best dressed. 
  • The Lost and Found will be donated Friday.
  • Marcus Roman is running a backpack and toiletry drive for Gardian Ad Litem, a foster children program. Please donate any backpacks or toiletry items. You can bring them to Mr. Mills' classroom. Thank you for your support.

Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements December 3: 
  • On Wednesday, December 5 Voyager students will have thespecial opportunity to meet Brian Dawkins, the popular DJ from K97.5. In 2017, Brian was named by Source magazine as one of the 30 Most Influential Radio Personalities in America. Brian will be playing music and putting on a program in the gym during lunch. This program will be to promote the Durham Holiday Classic, a new basketball tournament that features all of Durham's high schools - including your Voyager Vikings boys and girls basketball teams! You don't want to miss this opportunity, so plan to bring your lunch on Wednesday if you normally go out. You will be able to eat your lunch in the gym. We just ask that you throw away your trash and be responsible for any mess.
  • Good Afternoon Voyager! We have an important home basketball game on Tuesday, December 4th and we need to sell it out! Voyager will be playing Northern.   • Congrats to the women's varsity basketball team on a successful win against Southern Wake Academy on Friday. Junior Carlise Nelson led the team with 25 points. Come out and watch the girls in tomorrow's red out game!

  • Bass Assassins Barbecue Fundraiser will be held Dec 7th from 5-7 pm. Tickets are for sale in C115 also you can pre-order through the link on VAHS Bss Assassins Instagram, VAHS Facebook, or the VAHS website.
  • Join us for an evening of song & dance THIS THURSDAY in Voyager High School's Gym! Come show your support of our high school & middle school singers & band with a special performance by our high school Gospel Choir & 3rd grade singers. You'll also get a sneak peak of both Bull City Lights & Vocal Affinity's show choir competition songs! Come early at 6:40 for a pre-concert featuring selections by our high school band, Bull City Sound!Tickets are $10 for adults/$5 for students (Voyager staff admitted FREE with ID). Doors open at 6:30pm.
  • The swim team had a successful first meet yesterday. The girls were first and the boys were second. 
  • There will be a tailgate at Voyager at 1:00 on Saturday to send the boys soccer team off to states. Come out for lots of food and fun!

Voyager Academy High School Daily Annoucements November 5:

  • Come support the mens soccer team in the second round of the playoffs as they play Henderson Collegiate. The game is at Northern and will start at 7.
  • NHS is hosting a winter dance on Saturday, December 1st. It is a Sadie Hawkins dance, and tickets go on sale Wednesday outside the gym doors. Tickets are $5 as of now, but prices will go up.
  • The Cross Country team had a successful state meet this Saturday. Both teams ran well, with the girls finishing as the State Runner-Up team. Many runners ran personal bests, and Rosie Scott-Benson came in second overall in the girl's race. We congratulate all runners on a successful season!

  • The Cross Country team has their state meet tomorrow. We wish them luck as they wrap up their season.
  • NHS is hosting a winter dance on Saturday, December 1st. It is a Sadie Hawkins dance, and tickets go on sale next week. 
  • An admission rep. from ECU will be here Monday Nov. 5 at 10:00. This is during second period and students will need a pass to attend. Please contact Ms. O'Kane if you would like to attend. If you have applied to ECU, or are considering it, thiswould be a good meeting for you to attend. Anyone who is undecided is also encouraged to attend as well, ECU has rollingadmissions, and is very popular with the Voyager students.They offer a lot of great undergraduate and graduate programs
  • The Lost and Found will be donated to charity this Friday. Please look through it if you have lost something.
  • Spanish and art students who have their face painted may be dismissed to the front lobby at 2:10. No earlier than 2:10 pm during 3rd period. We will then parade through the elementary school and return to the commons.

  • The Spanish classes and art class will be celebrating Dias de losMuertos on November 1st and 2nd. They have built an ofrenda, (like the one in the movie Coco), to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed on. If you would like to contribute to the display feel free to bring a photograph of a loved one who has passes and add it to the wall in the commons. If you have any questions please ask Senor Bankhead, Senor Manuel, or Senorita ClarkStover. You don't have to be in Spanish or art to participate. Any student in the school may participate in hanging pictures.

    Voyager Academy Daily Announcements October 29: 

    • The Bass Assassins took Lake Norman by storm this weekend in the 3rd annual Riley’s Cup. Out of 53 boats we were able to bring in a 32rd place finish thanks to Avery Doughty and Austin Haney, a 19th place finish thanks to Casey Hudson and Cade Dunn, and a 2nd place finish thanks to Brycen Hendriks and Kyle Dillon. If you see them today be sure to congratulate them.
    • Interested in going to New York? Mrs. Paradis is planning a trip to NYC this summer. Please join her for an informational meeting for this trip Tuesday, October 30th at 6:30pm in D124.

    • Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements October 26:

  • This is for all students who park in the student parking lot. Repeat-this is for all students who park in the student parking lot. On Friday October 26, your vehicle must be out of the parking lot by 4:15. If you are staying after school for any activity, may go ahead and move your vehicle to the front lot. This is because food trucks and vendors will be rolling in at that time for the PTO Fall Festival. We hope you will come!
  • Voyager basketball fans can get their first look at this year's teams on Friday night at the Fall Festival. The Vikings will be playing their annual Intrasquad game, with the JV team starting at 6:00, followed by the girl's Varsity at 6:20 and the Boys Varsity at 6:40. Please come to the gym and support our teams. 
  • Interested in going to New York? Mrs. Paradis is planning a trip to NYC this summer. Please join her for an informational meeting for this trip Tuesday, October 30th at 6:30pm in D124. 
  • Student council is selling Halloween candygrams in room D121 this week before school and during lunch. Send a "sweet" message to your friends this Halloween! 
  • Come see upper level's theater productions! Be entertained by "Murder at the Banquet" and "Meet the Macbeth's" at Walltown Children's Theater located near Northgate Mall. Murder at the Banquet is showing at 7PM on the 26th, and Meet the Macbeth's is showing at 7PM on the 27th. However, you can see BOTH PLAYS on the 28th at 4PM. Tickets are $5 and free for staff.
  • Their is a Service Club meeting on Monday at 8:15 in the Commons.

    Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements October 25: 

    • Boys soccer senior night is tonight. Ceremony starts at 6 and game time is at 6:30. The theme is white out. Come out and support!

    • This is for all students who park in the student parking lot. Repeat-this is for all students who park in the student parking lot. On Friday October 26, your vehicle must be out of the parking lot by 4:15. If you are staying after school for any activity, may go ahead and move your vehicle to the front lot. This is because food trucks and vendors will be rolling in at that time for the PTO Fall Festival. We hope you will come!
    • Voyager basketball fans can get thier first look at this year's teams on Friday night at the Fall Festival. The Vikings will be playing their annual Intrasquad game, with the JV team starting at 6:00, followed by the girl's Varsity at 6:20 and the Boys Varsity at 6:40. Please come to the gym and support our teams.

    • Congratulations to the Sophomores! They won the Penny Wars and greatly helped Service Club to reach their goal of donating $2500  to Leukemia and Lymphoma research! Next Monday, October 22, during lunch we will be handing out pizza to the 10th graders in the Commons.

    Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements 9/27:
    • Service Club is going to be having another Penny Wars next week to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  
    •  An admissions representative from Queens University in Charlotte will be on campus on Monday January 15 during lunch. See Ms. O'Kaine for additional information. 
    •  Ms. Taylor and English 1 would like to thank everyone today for their cooperation and participation in the Stand Up Speak out Assembly today! We encourage everyone to continue to support these classes and their efforts by participating in the Silent Auction, buying a t-shirt, ribbon, or donating. The Silent Auction will be up Friday for fall conference day if you wold like to come by with a parent. Ms. Taylor will reach out to winning bids this weekend and payment will be due Monday when you come to pick up your item.  
    •  Come out and support the VAHS Bass Assassins this Saturday, Sept. 29th at Lake Gaston as they comepete in their first bass tournament of the season. You can see them weigh in their fish at 2:30 PM at Summit Landing boat ramp. If you see Brycen Hendriks, Kyle Dillon, Avery Doughty, Cade Dunn, and Tyler McLamb today wish them luck!

        • Dr. Bankhead would like to give a shout out to the following of his students who have consistently, throughout the first half of this semester, demonstrated our core values: Victor Stonebreaker (for his confidence in the sense of perserverence, always trying to understand and never giving up), Jean-Carlos Castillo (for his curiosity, made evident by his perparing himself well for each class and always being able to participate effectively), Francesca Cedeno (for her empathy, shown through her appreciation of the achievements of her peers and her well wishes for people in general), Allison Gloade (for her reflection, as demonstrated by her resilience in the face of difficulties, her reflective skills always giving her the will to move forwards and continue growing despite setbacks), and Dallas Knight (for her integrity, in the sense that she is aware of what is expected of her and attempts to fill those expectations daily.)

      • Voyager Bass Assasins and WeWilmRebuild are partering to help with Hurricane Florence Relief in Wilmington, NC. We will be placing boxes at each school where donations can be placed. While WeWilmRebuild is going to focus their effors on the  human side, Bass Assasins will focus their efforts of the four legged victims. All donations will be collected throughout the month of September and the Voyager Bass Assassins will deliver them to Nicholas and his crew for distribution. Thank you for your support!
        • Did you know that North Carolina is the 10th hungriest state in the nation? Almost 20% of our children face hunger on a regular basis. 18% of our senior citizens struggle with hunger. Backpack Buddies provides local school children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. Starting September 17th, the OCS class will have boxes around the school for students to donate food items. We will also collect donated food items during Advisory on Mondays for the next four weeks. The Advisory that collects the most food to donate will receive a Pizza  Lunch to thank them for donating. Please contact Amanda Shaw with any questions. Thank you for your help with this worthy cause!

All donations will be collected throughout the month of September and the Voyager Bass Assassins will deliver them to Nicholas and his crew for distribution. Thank you for your support!

Backpack Buddies provides local school children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. Starting September 17th, the OCS class will have boxes around the school for students to donate food items. We will also collect donated food items during Advisory on Mondays for the next four weeks. The Advisory that collects the most food to donate will receive a Pizza  Lunch to thank them for donating. Please contact Amanda Shaw with any questions.         • The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be meeting tomorrow morning at 7:30 in D124. Please join us for food, fun, and fellowship! You do not have to be a Christian or an athlete to attend.

        Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements 9/12

        • Did you know that North Carolina is the 10th hungriest state in the nation? Almost 20% of our children face hunger on a regular basis. 18% of our senior citizens struggle with hunger. The OCS class at Voyager Academy High School volunteers weekly with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in their program called "Backpack Buddies". Backpack Buddies provides local school children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. The children recieve a bag on Friday of every week that includes six balanced meals and two healthy snacks. We are having a Food Drive in order to support the efforts of the Food Bank. Starting September 17, the OCS class will have boxes around the school for students to donate canned food items. We will also collect donated food items during Advisory on Mondays for the next 4 weeks. The Advisory that colleccts the most food to donate will recieve a pizza lunch to thank them for donating. The Food Bank requests canned protein items (canned tuna, Spaghetti O's, soups, beans, etc), canned vegtables, canned fruits in light juice, juice boxes, and snack items like granola bars and peanut butter crackers.         • An admissions representative from Queens University in Charlotte will be on campus on Monday 1:15 during lunch. See Ms. O'Kaine for additional information.

        • The Toyoma Committee of Sister Cities of Durham is pleased to announce a high school delegation trip to Toyoma, Japan during the summer of 2019. Students will be serving as junior ambassadors. During part of the visit, students will be staying with host families assosiated with the Toyoma College of Foreign Languages.           • Anyone interested in joining art club this year needs to see Mrs. Clark-Stover by Tuesday, September 11. Art Club will be holding it's first meeting off campus at the Nasher Museum on Thursday, September 13 and you must be registered for the event if you want to participate. Again, please stop by and see Mrs. Clark-Stover before school, during lunch or after school by Tuesday if you are interested.
          • Last year we did the refugee drive and the winning grade was the sophmores (now Juniors). We are going to serve pancakes for breakfast for the Juniors. It will be in the commons at  8:15 am to 8:50 am on Tuesday the 11th of September. Sorry for the late prize!
          • There will be a Red Cross Blood drive on September 11, 2018 in the Commons. Sign up at redcross.org with code "Voyager". Contact Jordan King for more information.
          • Congratulations to the men's soccer team for making Voyager history on Friday night. They beat Franklin Academy for the first time in the history of the schooL! Score was 6-3. Spencer Chwalik scored 4 goals. Noah Wells scored 2 goals. Congratulations to the team and Coach Robinson for this epic win!
          • Jordan Driving School will be offering a driver's ed class at Voyager during Fall Break, October 8-12. Students must be 14 1/2 to sign up for the class. Please stop by the front office to pick up more information if you are interested. Sign up deadline is September 30.

            • The Cross Country team has their first invitational meet tonight. Both the girls and boys teams will be competing in the Friday Night Lights race in Kernersville. We wish them luck in the start of their season? 
            • Devan Desai was captain of Duke Football team last weekend! Yes, at the Duke football game against Army last Saturday, Devan was recognized by Duke University for his volunteer service to the Durham community. He was named an Honorary Captain for the football team and was invited  down to the field for the opening Coin Toss. Devvan was nominated for this recognition by the Triangle Nonprofit Volunteer and Leadership Center, and his nomination was selected by Duke University's President, Dr. Vincent Prince. Look for pictures and a video of this event in next week's newsletter.

Make sure to take the time to talk to someone new, someone eating alone, or someone that just looks they could use an encouraging word. You never know how much a simple "hello" can change someone's day. Also, make sure to stop by the C hall and leave an inspirational "hello" greeting on the banner.

            • Join the Voyager FCA in a "Diaper Drive" supporting NC Diaper Bank that serves mothers and young children in need. Please bring in any brand of size 5 diapers. There is a donation bin located in the front office. If you would like to join students at the NC Diaper Bank on Saturday, September 29 from 10 am until noon. Please sign up by September 26th in the front office. This is also a great opportunity to gain service hours!

            Daily Announcements 8/13

            August 13: Voyager Academy High School Daily Announcements


            • The Fellowship of Christian Athletes: The FCA will be meeting tomorrow morning at 7:30 in D124. Please join us for food, fun, and fellowship! You do not have to be an athlete or a Christian to attend.

            • National Honor Society: There will a general National Honor Society meeting next Thursday, August 23 in Mrs. Huntington's room at 8:15. Please see Mrs. Huntington or an officer if you can't attend the meeting.

            • Fishing Club: There is a fishing club interest meeting in room C115 at lunch on Thursday, August 16. 

            • Spanish Club: Please come to Dr. Bankhead's room (E141) for Spanish Club and conversation. Meetings will be held each Wednesday starting August 15, from 8:15 to 8:40 and 4:05 to 4:25. You do not need to join the club to be part of the conversation, and you do not need to be taking a Spanish class to be part of the club or conversation. Also, you are welcome, even if you're not a student; so everybody, come when you can. Let's be bilingual!

            • All gold forms and off-campus lunch forms are due by the end of the day.

            • Parents should have received student parking information in an email. If not, please see Mrs. Hendriks for more information. Starting next week, students should only be parking in their assigned spots.
